The churchyard at St Andrews in Colebrooke sits quiet and proper, just a short drive from Exeter's bustle. It's a working parish church - the sort you stumble across on a country walk, not somewhere you'd plan a day around, but absolutely worth twenty minutes if you're passing through Devon.

The building itself is medieval, all grey stone and tall windows, with that particular English village church calm that makes you want to speak in whispers. Inside, it's straightforward - no major treasures or dramatic architecture, but genuine. The sort of place locals have been getting married and buried for centuries.

Really, this is one for the walk rather than the destination. The churchyard's pleasant enough for a wander, and the surrounding lanes are the kind where you actually spot wildlife.

Kids under ten will get bored within minutes unless they're the type who like hunting for old graves. Walkers and history types will find it pleasant but undemanding. There's no café, no gift shop, no facilities to speak of - it's just a church that's been there for about 500 years and carries on doing its job.
