St Alban's Church

You'll find this solid medieval church standing quietly on the edge of Faringdon, unremarkable from the outside but worth ducking into if you're passing through. St Alban's has that particular English church charm - original stonework, a few decent monuments, and the sort of peaceful interior where you can actually hear yourself think. The town centre is just a short walk away, which makes it easy to slot into a morning before heading elsewhere.

It's the kind of place history enthusiasts will appreciate more than casual visitors. There's enough to justify fifteen minutes or so, but don't expect a major production - this isn't a showstopping cathedral. Families with fidgety kids might find it a bit of a squeeze unless they're genuinely interested in old buildings. The real draw is combining it with a wander around Faringdon itself, which has proper independent shops and a decent high street.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Faringdon Grange is closest at 2.5 miles - this is a natural break from camping life. The Real Campsite and Evelyns Garden Glamping are a bit further out, but still close enough for a quick trip in. Visiting mid-morning works best; the light's better for the interior, and the town's livelier without being rammed. No entry fee that we're aware of, though do check ahead as opening hours aren't always regular for smaller churches.
