Sron Garbh

The walk up Sron Garbh demands proper legs and a clear day - without visibility, you're just trudging through cloud. It's a proper wee peak that rises above Kinlochleven, offering the kind of views that make the slog worthwhile: glen stretching out below, mountains piling up on all sides, and on a decent day, you can see clear across to Ben Nevis territory. Allow three to four hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath and take photos. The route itself is well-trodden but steep in sections - not technical scrambling, just relentless uphill. This one's for walkers who want genuine effort rewarded. Families with young kids will find it bit much, but teenagers who can handle a few hours on their feet will get a real sense of achievement at the top. Start early. The weather changes fast in the Highlands, and you don't want to be descending in the dark. Kinlochleven itself is a working village with supplies and cafes, so grab what you need there before heading out. If you're based at Red Squirrel Campsite or Blackwater Hostel, both handily close by, you've got a cracking day's walk on your doorstep. Worth the detour if you're doing the wider glen circuit, and worth the effort if you're genuinely keen on Scottish hillwalking.
