Square Covert

Square Covert is a proper woodland walk just outside Beccles, the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss entirely. It's a manageable forest patch - nothing vast or overwhelming - with the kind of quiet that makes you realise how rarely you hear birds properly anymore.

You're walking through mixed woodland with decent footpaths, though they can get boggy in winter. The trees do their job: overhead cover, enough shade to keep things cool even on warm days, and enough open space that it doesn't feel claustrophobic. There's something satisfying about forests in Suffolk - they're not dramatic, just solid and reliable.

Walkers will get the most from this. Bring proper boots if it's been wet. You're looking at an hour or ninety minutes for a decent circuit, depending on how slowly you want to move. It's fine for families with kids old enough not to need constant distraction, though there's nothing here to specifically hold younger children's attention - no play equipment, no visitor centre, just trees. History types won't find much to grab onto either.

The whole thing is free and you can turn up whenever. There's no formal entrance, which is typical for Suffolk woodland.

If you're staying at Pigs in Blankets or the other holiday parks nearby, it's a cracking option for burning an hour on a morning when the weather's decent. Not a destination in itself, but a solid addition to a park-based break in the area.
