Spoonbed Hill

The walk up Spoonbed Hill takes about half an hour from Stroud, and honestly, it's worth every step. You get proper views across the Cotswolds once you reach the top - rolling fields, distant hills, and on a clear day you can see for miles. The summit itself is modest, nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. This is the Cotswolds, not the Alps.

It's ideal for walkers who know the area and fancy something quick without needing a full day's expedition. Families with older kids will manage fine, though younger ones might find the climb a bit of a slog depending on their legs. The paths are generally good, though muddy patches are common after rain, so proper footwear matters.

There's no visitor centre or facilities up there - just you, the views, and the wind. That's either brilliant or disappointing depending on what you want from a walk. If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Painswick or Cherry Tree, it's a convenient outing that doesn't demand hours of your time.

Come in late afternoon when the light's better and Stroud feels less like you need to visit it again. Spring and autumn are cracking seasons - summer can get a bit busy with other walkers, and winter brings that wet Cotswolds mud that clings to everything. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your whole holiday around it.
