Walking around the town centre, you'll spot large-scale pieces that have transformed ordinary walls into something genuinely worth stopping for - think bold colours, clever designs, and the kind of work that makes you actually look up from your phone.

It's not a formal gallery space in the traditional sense. There's no admission fee, no opening hours to worry about - you just wander the streets and find them. That's rather the appeal. You could spend an hour doing a slow circuit, or tick it off in twenty minutes if you're rushed. Either way, it beats trudging around another museum.

Spennymoor sits about fifteen minutes south of Durham, making it an easy addition to a broader County Durham trip. Stay at Grove Farm, The Gables Pod Camping, or Eden Grange Glamping - all within spitting distance - and you could combine it with the cathedral and castle in Durham town itself, plus walks around nearby parks. On its own it's a short visit, but combined with the region's other draws, it's worth the detour. Go midweek if you can; weekends bring the usual Saturday high street bustle.
