Walkers absolutely dominate here, which makes sense - the network of paths is genuinely first-rate, ranging from gentle riverside strolls to proper ridge walks that'll test your legs. The landscape itself tells the story: Iron Age forts tucked into hilltops, ancient drove roads still going where they've gone for centuries, villages that haven't moved in a thousand years. It's not about a single viewpoint or a museum building. It's the whole thing. You'll want a good map and decent shoes. Allow a full day if you're serious about exploring - half a day if you just want a taste of why people get obsessive about these hills. Spring's lovely for wildflowers, autumn for the light, though honestly any clear day beats a sunny one at the seaside. If you're camping nearby at The Secret Campsite, this is genuinely your backyard. Brighton's close enough for supplies but far enough away that you feel properly out of things.
