Somerset Space Walk - Neptune

Neptune is the grand finale of the Somerset Space Walk, a scale model of our solar system stretched across the county. You're standing at the edge of everything - a representation of the planet that's so far out it took Voyager 2 twelve years to reach it. The whole point of this walk is the journey itself, not any single stop. Starting from the Sun somewhere closer to Taunton and working your way outward, each planet gets progressively smaller and further apart, which gives you a proper sense of just how vast space actually is.

It works brilliantly for school groups and families who fancy a ramble with a bit of education thrown in. You can't do this in an afternoon - it's designed to be tackled over several visits or as part of a longer walking holiday. The Somerset Levels provide decent flat ground for the trek, though the distances between planets become genuinely testing towards Neptune. History buffs won't find much here, but anyone with kids aged eight upwards will appreciate the scale and weirdness of the concept.

Admission details are thin on the ground, but the walk itself is free to access - you're just using the public landscape. Plan for flexibility: good boots matter more than a schedule. Cornish Farm Touring Park and Ashe Farm are both within easy driving distance, making them decent bases for a multi-day space walk assault. The real question is whether your family can handle walking several miles between invisible planets. Some will find it thrilling. Others might struggle after Neptune turns out to be a marker on a field.
