Slungie Hill

The walk up Slungie Hill isn't long, but it's steep enough to catch your breath and make you properly grateful when you reach the top. From Perth, it's a straightforward drive into Perthshire, and once you're up there, the views across the Tay Valley justify the huffing and puffing on the way. The hill itself is moorland - open, windswept, the kind of place where you feel like you've actually gone somewhere rather than just wandered ten minutes from the car park.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a destination in itself - you won't spend hours up there - but as part of a day moving through the Tay Valley, it works well. Maybe forty minutes up, twenty minutes down if you're taking it steady. On a clear day the views are solid; on a grey one, less impressive, so timing matters.

Neither families with very young children nor serious hill baggers will find much here. It's the middle ground - fit enough to want a proper walk, but not keen on a six-hour slog. If you're staying at Greenhill Farm Glamping or Maycroft Retreat, both just a couple of miles away, it's worth the detour one afternoon. Worth allowing an hour and a half total, maybe longer if you're stopping to admire things. Free to access and go at your own pace, which is the best kind of outing.
