Slievenamoney

Slievenamoney is a modest peak that rises above the rolling countryside near Castlewellan, offering walkers a straightforward climb with decent views across County Down. The summit itself won't knock your socks off - it's not dramatic or particularly high - but the walk up is pleasant enough, threading through farmland and moorland that feels properly rural without being exhausting.

This is walkers' territory, full stop. If you're camping at Slieve Croob Camping just down the road, it makes a logical half-day outing. Families with young kids might find the climb a bit tedious unless they're properly keen walkers, but older children will manage fine. The real appeal here is that it's accessible and quick - you won't lose a whole afternoon to it.

Allow about two hours return from the nearest car park, depending on your pace and how long you fancy sitting at the top with a flask. Go on a clear day or don't bother; mist rolls in fast and the views vanish. There's no visitor centre, no facilities, just you and the landscape.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby glamping spots - Pine Tree Hollow or Escape Glamping are within spitting distance - this works as a gentle warm-up walk before tackling the more serious peaks in the Mournes nearby. It's a solid addition to a walking holiday in the area, though not a reason to make a special trip on its own.
