Seeconnell

You'll find Seeconnell tucked into the Mourne Mountains south of Castlewellan - a modest peak that punches above its weight if you're after proper mountain air without the crowds. It's a straightforward walk from various trailheads in the area, taking you up through rough moorland with views that open out across the valley below. Not the highest point around, but that's rather the point. The walk itself is the draw here, not some finishing line at a summit cairn.

This is decent terrain for hillwalkers who want something real but manageable - families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger legs might find the moorland sections a bit relentless. Allow a couple of hours there and back depending on your starting point and fitness. Go on a clear day or don't bother; the mist rolls in quick up here and there's not much to see when it does.

Stay based at one of the camping spots nearby - Tollymore Campsite or Camping Tollymore Forest Park are both within six miles and offer proper amenities - then tackle Seeconnell as part of a wider Mourne Mountains experience. Combine it with walks in Tollymore Forest Park itself or head over to Slieve Croob for a different angle on the range. The whole area rewards a few days' exploration rather than a quick visit.
