Skylark Studio sits just outside Cockermouth, a working gallery where you can actually watch artists at it rather than just gawk at finished pieces behind glass. The studio showcases contemporary work, and there's something quite satisfying about seeing art in progress rather than in some sterile white-cube gallery. If you're camping at one of the nearby sites - Castle Guards Farm Retreat is closest at just over two miles away - this makes a decent rainy-afternoon diversion. Families with older kids might find it engaging; younger ones will likely get restless within twenty minutes. Serious art types and makers will get far more from it.

Because opening hours and admission fees aren't widely publicised, you'll want to ring ahead or check their social media before making the trip from your campsite. There's no point driving out only to find it's closed for a private event or a studio day. Cockermouth itself has plenty to keep you occupied - the town centre's got decent shops and cafes - so you could easily pair a studio visit with a proper wander about.

Really only worth your time if you're genuinely curious about contemporary art and the people making it.
