Sithean Mòr

The walk up Sithean Mòr isn't long, but it's steep enough to earn the view. This Highland peak sits just outside Ardgay and rewards you with proper panoramic stuff - the kind of wide-open moorland vista that makes you understand why people move to the Highlands and never leave.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical scramble. The path is clear most of the way, though it gets boggy in patches after rain. Families with kids aged eight-plus will manage it fine on a decent day. Younger ones might struggle with the effort-to-reward ratio halfway up. Serious hill-baggers will find it a decent warm-up before tackling bigger peaks in the region. On a clear day the sightlines stretch for miles - on a grey one you'll be socked in by cloud within minutes, so check the forecast.

If you're staying at Ardgay Glamping just down the road, this is exactly the sort of accessible peak walk that fills a morning before lunch. It's free to walk, obviously, and open year-round. Best visited spring through autumn when the ground isn't a complete quagmire. Winter brings snow and ice that need proper gear.

The real appeal is how it sits - that Goldilocks zone between 'proper walk' and 'achievable for most people'. Not Instagram-famous, which means fewer crowds.
