Site of Tremabe Bridge over old railway

The old railway bridge at Tremabe is one of those quiet spots you'd walk past without thinking twice if you didn't know what you were looking at. It's what remains of the Looe Valley Railway line, which once connected the town of Looe inland towards Liskeard - a proper Victorian engineering feat that's long since been ripped up. What you get now is the bridge structure itself, standing over what's become a leafy wooded valley, with the railway bed visible as a walking route beneath it.

It's not a destination that'll hold your attention for hours, but it works brilliantly as a stop-off if you're hiking the area around Looe. The actual bridge is best viewed from the old railway trackbed below, where you can see the stonework properly and understand the gradient the Victorian builders were working with. The walk down is manageable, though a touch muddy after rain.

Historically minded visitors will get the most from this - it's the sort of thing that makes sense if you're already interested in industrial heritage and railway archaeology. Families with young kids might find it underwhelming on its own, though it slots nicely into a wider valley walk. You'll need to allow maybe twenty minutes here, longer if you're taking photos or reading up on the line's history.
