Sir Andrew Derbyshire was a 14th-century knight who made his mark on Yorkshire, and while there's not much left to physically stand in front of, the historical significance is genuine enough if you're into that sort of thing. The reality is you'll be visiting a location rather than a destination - there's no visitor centre or museum here, just the actual place where history happened. That makes it more interesting than some heritage attractions, but you need to know what you're getting into. Families with young kids expecting a day's entertainment will find it pretty thin on the ground.

York itself is three miles away, so this works as part of a bigger day rather than a standalone trip. Base yourself at Nurseries Caravan Park or Wagtail Park nearby and spend your time dipping between York's layers of history - the Minster, the walls, the museums - then work this in as a proper historical curiosity. Allow yourself an hour or so to visit and absorb the context rather than rushing through. Best done on foot if the weather's cooperating, which gives you a proper sense of the landscape he would have known.
