Sinkingclose Copse

A small woodland near Watchet that feels properly tucked away from the holiday park crowds. Sinkingclose Copse is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan a pilgrimage to - dense enough to feel like proper forest, but intimate rather than sprawling. The trees are thick here, which means it's genuinely cool on warm days, and the floor is soft with leaf matter underfoot.

It works best for a morning wander or as a break between beach sessions if you're staying at Doniford Bay or Warren Bay nearby. You're not talking a major hike - maybe 20 minutes to get the feel of it - but it's a genuine escape from the seaside resort atmosphere. Families with younger kids will find it manageable, though there's not much in the way of facilities or attractions within it. Older walkers might use it as part of a longer loop around the area rather than a destination in itself.

The real value is proximity. If you're camped at Moorhouse or Hoburne Blue Anchor, this saves you driving into town for greenery. It's free and accessible, though opening hours aren't formalised - it's one of those places you visit when it suits you. Worth 30 minutes of your time if you're in Watchet with restless kids or need fresh air, but don't rearrange your holiday around it. It's a local resource rather than a draw in itself.
