The boardwalk at Singleton Park winds through wetland that honestly feels like you've stepped into someone else's countryside. It's a working nature reserve just outside Preston, the sort of place where you'll actually spot things rather than just walk past empty fields.

You're looking at reed beds, open water, and the kind of bird life that makes binoculars worthwhile. On a decent day the light hits the water properly and you understand why someone bothered protecting this patch. The walk itself isn't demanding - the boardwalk keeps you dry and moves you through different habitats without faffing about.

It works best for patient types. Kids will get something out of it if they're into spotting wildlife, but if yours need constant stimulation they'll be done in forty minutes. Serious birdwatchers come here for a reason, especially during migration seasons when things get properly interesting. Local dog walkers know it too.

Free entry, naturally. Allow an hour to do it justice without rushing. Spring and autumn are when you'll see the most action - winter can be bleak, though that has its own appeal if you like that sort of thing. Summer's pleasant enough but busier.

It's a solid addition to a caravan stay at North View or Moss Rose - somewhere to stretch your legs between bigger Preston attractions without driving anywhere. Not earth-shattering, but proper countryside without leaving the edges of town. That counts for something.
