The park runs along the River Sow and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, so there's proper walking territory here with landscaped gardens that feel lived-in rather than manicured to death. You'll find monuments dotted about - Chinese pavilions, a stone bridge, follies that make you wonder what the original owners were thinking. The working farm element sets it apart from your typical grand house visit. Kids actually engage with it because there are animals about and space to run around without feeling rushed. The estate is free to roam the grounds, though there's a charge if you want inside the house and museum - honestly, the gardens and parkland are the main draw anyway. Budget two to three hours minimum if you're walking the perimeter and exploring the various paths. It works brilliantly as a base activity when you're staying at The White Lodge or Canalside Camping, both under a mile away. You can walk straight from either campsite into the estate without bothering with a car. Spring and early autumn are best - summer gets warm and the ground can get sticky near the river. Winter's atmospheric but muddy underfoot.
