About Shieldaig Pier
It's a working pier, not a tourist attraction dressed up as one. Fishing boats still use it. Local folk wander past. You'll see seals hauled out on the rocks nearby, and if you're lucky, white-tailed eagles working the loch. Walkers use it as a turning point on the coastal path, or simply as an excuse to stop and breathe for five minutes.
The walk from Strathcarron down to Shieldaig takes about forty minutes on road and path - nothing strenuous. The pier itself takes ten minutes to explore properly. Bring binoculars if you've got them; bring a camera if you want to try capturing what the Highlands actually look like when nobody's editing the colours.
If you're based at Shieldaig Camping & Cabins - less than half a mile away - this is your morning stroll. It works brilliantly as part of a longer Highland park holiday, breaking up the drive between Strathcarron and whatever comes next. Free, obviously. Open whenever. No cafes, no facilities, just a pier and some of the best views in Wester Ross.
