Shenton Lake

The water here is surprisingly clear, and on a decent day the reflections are proper sharp. Shenton Lake sits just outside Nuneaton, a decent-sized body of water that draws walkers, anglers, and families after a bit of fresh air without the effort of a full countryside trek. There's a path that loops around the perimeter - nothing strenuous, maybe forty minutes if you don't dawdle - and the banks are open enough that you'll spot waterfowl without needing binoculars. Fishermen know this spot well. It's free to visit, which is always a bonus when you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks.

The real draw is that it breaks up a Leicestershire caravan holiday nicely. If you're staying at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges just down the road (under two miles), you can walk here from your pitch without needing the car. Bosworth Caravan Park is slightly further, around 2.7 miles, but still manageable for an afternoon visit. The Dandelion Hideaway, their luxury glamping option further out, makes for a pleasant drive if you want something a touch more scenic than a leisure centre.

Bring a packed lunch and settle on the bank for an hour. Kids will manage the walk easily enough, though there's not masses of entertainment once you've done the loop - it's more about the open space and a bit of peace than attractions. Waterside locations always feel like a win on a park holiday, and this one doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is: a proper local lake with a decent walk attached.
