Walking the grounds, you'll spot foundations, post holes, and the occasional pottery shard if you know where to look - it's the kind of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick snap for Instagram.

History buffs will find genuine interest here. The settlement's layout reveals how people organised their lives, where they worked, where animals were kept. It's not flashy - no reconstructions, no interactive screens - just the bones of the place and your imagination filling in the gaps. Children under ten might lose interest after twenty minutes unless they're the sort to get excited about archaeology. Teenagers with a school history project, though? They'll eat it up.

There's no visitor centre that I'm aware of, and admission appears to be free. Allow ninety minutes if you're thorough, forty-five if you're not. The site sits roughly between Dorchester and the holiday parks dotted around the area - Green Valley Yurts is only two miles away, making this a decent afternoon slot if you're staying at one of the local glamping spots like that one or Giants Head Caravan Park three and a half miles south.

Go on a dry day. Muddy fields aren't impossible but they're nobody's idea of fun, and you'll get far more from the visit if you can actually see what you're walking around.
