Searcham Coppice

The woodland around Searcham Coppice offers proper walking territory if you're staying anywhere near Bourton-on-the-Water. It's the sort of place locals know about and visitors miss - no visitor centre, no gift shop, just trees and paths that wind through decent-sized timber. The Cotswolds doesn't do dense forest, so this feels like a minor victory when you find it.

Walking here takes you through mixed woodland with a real sense of escape despite being minutes from the village. The paths are generally well-maintained but can get muddy after rain, so proper boots matter. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for a decent loop - enough to blow off steam without committing your whole afternoon. It's brilliant for families with kids old enough to walk a bit; younger ones might get bored if you dawdle.

Historians and woodland types will get more out of it than casual strollers. There's actual coppice management history here if you know what you're looking at - that matters if you care about that sort of thing. The light filters through nicely in spring and summer, though autumn's when it really sings.

If you're glamping at Cotswolds Meadow or the Experience Freedom setup near Moreton-in-Marsh, this works as a morning walk before heading into the village for lunch. Bluewood Lodges is a bit further out but still easily reachable. Free to access, no facilities on site. Go early if you want it quiet.
