Seaness

The walk up to Seaness rewards you with one of the more dramatic coastal views along this stretch of Cumbria. It's not a quick pop-in sort of place - you're looking at a proper hike that takes you above Millom with views out across the Irish Sea that genuinely stop you mid-stride.

What you get is a high point with genuine wow factor. On a clear day you can see for miles, and when the light's right, the water below catches the sun in ways that make phone cameras feel inadequate. The walk itself is steep enough to earn those views rather than hand them to you on a plate. Bring decent boots.

This is one for walkers first and foremost. History types might appreciate the vantage point - there's something about standing high above the Millom coastline that makes you understand the landscape differently. Families with younger kids might find the hike a bit much unless everyone's a keen rambler; it's not a casual stroll.

Timing matters. Windy days are common up here, and visibility can shut down quickly, so go when the forecast's settled. Early morning or late afternoon gives you better light than midday. Allow a good couple of hours for the round trip depending on fitness.

If you're based at Harbour Lights Campsite just down the road, this makes an excellent half-day excursion that justifies the effort. Not Instagram-easy, but genuinely worth the graft.
