"Escape To Light" Stone Sculpture

You turn a corner near Millom and suddenly there's this enormous stone sculpture catching the light - 'Escape to Light' stops you dead. It's a proper statement piece, carved to almost architectural scale, and the way it's been positioned means the light changes everything depending on when you visit and where you're standing. The gallery spaces around it showcase contemporary sculpture work, though the star turn is undoubtedly that main installation.

This appeals most to anyone with a genuine interest in modern sculpture and stone work. If you're after a quick snap for Instagram, you'll get that, but the real reward comes from spending time with it - walking round it, watching how shadows fall across the carved surfaces, understanding the artist's thinking. It's not the sort of thing that holds restless kids for long, if we're being honest.

The location works brilliantly if you're based at Harbour Lights Campsite just down the road - less than half a mile away - or pushing slightly further out to High Haume Glamping. You could easily slot a visit in before heading to the coast at Haverigg or exploring the wider Millom area. Allow a solid hour if you're actually engaging with the work, though you could feasibly see it in twenty minutes if you're just passing through.
