About Scaleber Hill
What you get at the top is honest rather than spectacular. On a clear day, you can see across to the Yorkshire Dales proper, which frankly looks more interesting from up here than it does when you're in it. The fell itself is rough moorland with stone walls and the occasional grouse shooter in season, so autumn visits are better if you value peace. There's a trig point if you're into those things.
Walkers will get the most from this - it's straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the exposed sections a bit tedious. Allow a couple of hours there and back with time to sit down and look at the view. It's free, obviously, being a hill.
If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Deerstone or Hedgerow, this makes a decent morning outing before heading further into the Dales. It's not worth planning a trip around, but if you're in Barnoldswick already, it's well worth the walk.
