Saredon Hill

The walk up Saredon Hill rewards you with genuinely decent views across Staffordshire - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you'll spot the countryside rolling away towards Cannock Chase. It's a proper local spot rather than a tourist hotspot, which means you won't fight crowds to enjoy it.

The hill itself isn't much of a climb - probably twenty minutes from the car park if you're not dawdling. The summit's nothing fancy: a bit of open ground with the view, maybe some benches if you're lucky. Best visited in autumn or early spring when the light's better and the weather's not trying to flatten you. Summer weekends can get muddy if there's been rain.

Walkers will find it useful as a short leg in a bigger ramble around the area rather than a standalone destination. If you've got kids under ten, they'll manage it fine, but they won't be entertained for more than an hour total. History enthusiasts won't find much to chew on here - it's about the views and the walk, not any particular story.

Stay at Pillaton Hall Farm just three miles away and you're perfectly placed for this and other walks in the region. Oakland Holiday Park, a bit further out at nearly five miles, gives you more space if you're after a proper park setup. Both work well as bases for exploring the Staffordshire countryside without needing to drive far. It's the sort of hill you do on the morning you're leaving, not a reason to travel specially.
