Salisbury Woodland

A proper woodland walk just outside Blackpool, Salisbury Woodland offers something you won't find on the seafront - peace and trees. The reserve itself is fairly compact, but that works in its favour. You get woodland paths threading through native species without the sense you're trudging for hours on end.

It's best suited to anyone after a bit of quiet. Dog walkers love it, families with younger kids who tire easily get good value from a morning visit, and if you're into spotting birds or identifying trees, there's enough variety to keep you engaged. The woodland canopy does a decent job of blocking out the weather too, so even on a grey Lancashire day it's walkable.

Access appears to be free, though it's worth checking locally in Blackpool first as details aren't widely published online. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on how slowly you move. Spring brings bluebells and new growth; autumn's when the light filters through properly.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Manor House Glamping, Pipers Height, or Primrose Bank are all within three miles - this makes a good leg-stretcher between beach days. It's not a destination in itself, but paired with Blackpool's attractions, it's a welcome circuit-breaker. Ribby Hall Village, a bit further out at 5.5 miles, offers more structured activities if you need them alongside your stay.
