Saint Withburga

The church sits quietly in Holkham, just outside Peterstone, and it's one of those places that catches you off guard with its age and stillness. St Withburga's is a proper Norfolk village church - medieval stone, high ceilings, the works - dedicated to a Saxon saint who, according to local legend, had her body stolen in the 10th century and carted off to Ely. The irony is that her shrine became famous precisely because of the theft.
