Saint Vigor's with All Saints Fulbourn

Two churches sharing one graveyard just east of Cambridge - that's the slightly unusual setup at Fulbourn. Saint Vigor's is the older of the pair, medieval and solid, with the kind of thick walls that genuinely feel like they've been standing for centuries. All Saints sits alongside it, a later addition, and together they create an oddly peaceful corner that most Cambridge day-trippers completely miss.

Inside Saint Vigor's you'll find proper Norman work - round arches, chunky pillars - and some decent medieval glass if the light's right. The real appeal here is the quietness. No crowds, no gift shop, just you and the graves and the sense that this is still very much a working parish church rather than a tourist attraction.

It's worth combining this with a walk around Fulbourn village itself, which has kept its character better than some of the commuter belt around Cambridge. The churchyard's pleasant enough for a wander, and if you're staying at HappenOak Treehouse just up the road, it's an easy stroll from your accommodation.

Allow twenty minutes inside the church itself. Admission should be free - it's an active parish - but do check locally as opening hours aren't published. The village sits on decent walking routes if you fancy stretching your legs beyond the church gates. Real value here is in the peace rather than any particular sight.
