Saint Mary the Virgin is the sort of place locals have walked past for centuries without really seeing it. The nave stretches back further than you'd expect from the street frontage, and there's genuine craftsmanship in the woodwork and stonework. If you're into ecclesiastical architecture, you'll spot the details worth photographing. If you're not, twenty minutes is about right before heading back out.

It works best as a gentle stop during a town wander rather than a standalone trip. Bridgwater itself has enough going on - the market, the riverside, decent cafes - that you can happily spend half a day without feeling like you've made a pilgrimage just to see a church.

If you're staying at Secret Valley or Thornhills Holiday Park nearby, it's absolutely worth the short drive into town to tick it off. Families won't get much from it unless the kids are genuinely interested in medieval masonry, but it's free and quiet, which counts for something on a busy holiday. Go mid-week morning if you want the place to yourself.
