Sacred Heart

The Sacred Heart church in Omagh commands attention the moment you spot its twin spires rising above the town. It's a proper Victorian Gothic structure, all red sandstone and pointed arches, built in the 1880s and absolutely dominating the skyline. Inside, the scale of it hits you - high vaulted ceilings, ornate plasterwork, and stained glass that catches the light beautifully if you time it right with the sun.

This one's for anyone interested in Victorian religious architecture, but frankly, it's not the sort of place where you'll spend hours. A good walk around takes maybe twenty minutes, long enough to appreciate the craftsmanship and take in the peaceful atmosphere. The exterior is the real draw - photograph it from across the street to get the full drama of those spires.

Omagh itself sits in Fermanagh and Omagh, surrounded by some proper countryside. If you're staying at somewhere like Gortin Glen Glamping just down the road, you'd combine this with a walk in the Sperrins nearby rather than making it your sole focus. The town has enough cafes and shops to warrant an afternoon poke around, but the church is more of an architectural waypoint than a destination in itself.

No admission charge as far as I'm aware, though opening times can be unpredictable outside Sunday services. Worth a stop if you're in the area, but don't plan your route around it.
