Run Free Dog Fields - Bearsden

The fields at Bearsden are where dog owners go to properly let their animals off the lead without guilt. It's a straightforward setup - open grassland just outside Glasgow where dogs can actually run, not shuffle along on leads checking every lamppost. There's nothing fancy about it, which is precisely why locals rate it.

You'll see Border Collies tearing about, spaniels diving through longer grass, and the occasional bemused Pug wondering why it bothered. The space is genuinely generous - you won't feel like you're in someone's back garden, and there's room enough that a recall-dodging terrier won't cause a diplomatic incident with the next dog owner over.

Bring a ball or a stick if you want to work your dog hard. Bring nothing if you just fancy watching them be happy for twenty minutes. Most people allow an hour, which is enough unless your dog has decided the field is the best place on earth and refuses to leave.

It's free, obviously. The nearest town is Glasgow, about five miles south, so this works well if you're based in or around the city for a longer stay. The WHW Hotel & Campsite isn't far off if you're mixing dog time with proper camping. Bearsden itself is residential and fairly unremarkable, but that's not the point - you're here for the dog, and the dog will be content.
