Rozelle Alpacas

You're standing in a Carmarthenshire field watching alpacas amble towards you with an almost comical indifference. Rozelle Alpacas is a small, hands-on operation near Whitland where you can get up close with these absurdly likeable creatures. The animals are genuinely friendly - they'll eat from your hand and tolerate being petted, which kids find absolutely brilliant.

It's not a sprawling zoo with a hundred different species. This is intimate and low-key, which works in its favour. You'll spend an hour here maximum, and that's enough. The alpacas are the main event, along with a handful of other animals depending on the day. Families with younger children get the most out of it because the novelty of hand-feeding a ridiculous-looking llama-cousin doesn't wear off quickly.

Admission details are thin on the ground - you'll need to ring ahead or check their social media before you go. The location is properly rural, so it pairs well with a stay at Frowen Fields Eco Glamping & Camping Site just down the road. Five miles is walkable if you're in the mood for country air. After alpacas, you could easily fill a day with walks around the surrounding Carmarthenshire countryside or head into Whitland for lunch. It's not a destination in itself, but as a morning activity for a camping holiday, it's worth the detour.
