Rowney Warren

There's something quietly compelling about Rowney Warren, a proper woodland spot just east of Henlow where you can actually lose yourself for a couple of hours without worrying about crowds. It's not dramatic or showy - no dramatic vistas or Instagram moments - but the forest floor is thick with birdsong and the light filters through in that golden way that makes you understand why people bang on about ancient woodlands.

You'll want decent boots because it gets boggy in patches, especially after rain. The trails wind through mixed woodland with decent sections of beech and oak, and there's enough space to properly walk without feeling like you're queueing.
