Round Wood

Round Wood sits just outside Huntingdon and offers a proper woodland walk if you need to stretch your legs between caravan pitches. It's nothing dramatic - just a decent patch of forest with tracks running through it, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think rather than listen to the hum of the A14.

Walking here is straightforward enough. The paths are well-trodden and reasonably firm underfoot, so it works for families with kids who aren't ready for serious hiking. You'll find the usual suspects - oak, ash, and hazel - plus a decent show of bluebells in spring if the seasons cooperate. The canopy is thick enough that it's actually pleasant in summer when everywhere else is baking.

Best for: walkers after a quick circuit, families with younger children, anyone staying at nearby sites like Wyton Lakes or Fen End Farm who fancy a break from the caravan. It's not a destination in itself - you're not driving an hour to walk here - but as part of a Cambridgeshire loop with Huntingdon itself, it makes sense.

Allow an hour for a proper wander. Go early morning if you can; you'll have the place mostly to yourself. There's no café, no facilities, just forest. Free to access as far as I can tell, though check locally when you arrive. Decent option if you're based at Chittering Park or Huntingdon Boathaven and want something straightforward between days out.
