Round Law

You're looking at a modest hill that punches above its weight for views across Perthshire. Round Law sits just outside Perth and rewards a decent walk with proper panoramic stuff - the sort of vista that makes you understand why people bothered settling here centuries ago.

The ascent isn't brutal. It's the kind of walk where you'll find families with younger kids managing it without too much complaining, though the path gets a bit rougher closer to the summit. Allow a couple of hours return if you're not rushing. The peak itself is bare and windswept, which actually works in your favour - no trees blocking the sightlines. On a clear day you're getting views that stretch across the Tay valley and beyond. When the mist rolls in, though, you're just staring into grey nothing, so check the forecast first.

It's a good fit if you're based at either South Valleyfield or Beech Hedge - both within easy striking distance - and you want to get out of the caravan without heading too far. Solo walkers and couples will find it more rewarding than families wanting a dramatic peak experience. The hill's fairly quiet compared to the obvious tourist routes, which is either a plus or a minus depending on your mood.

Free to walk, obviously. Take decent boots even though it looks straightforward - it gets muddy. Spring and autumn are your best bets weather-wise. Summer can be overrun with midges if you're unlucky.
