Round Hill

The walk up Round Hill from Helensburgh is short enough to knock off in an afternoon but steep enough that you'll feel like you've earned the view. It's not a dramatic peak - no sharp ridges or scrambling involved - but the 300-metre climb rewards you with proper panoramic views over the Firth of Clyde, the Cloch Lighthouse perched away to the south, and on a clear day, the Arran hills sitting solid on the horizon.

You get a real sense of why people bothered building Rosneath Castle down below. The walk itself follows well-trodden paths through woodland at first, then opens onto moorland as you near the top. Locals use it regularly, which keeps the route obvious enough even on misty days - though you'll want decent visibility to justify the effort up.
