Rough Hill

The climb up Rough Hill is short but surprisingly rewarding if you're staying anywhere near Alcester. It's not a towering peak - more of a proper hill that gives you legitimate views across Warwickshire without eating half your day. The walk takes about twenty minutes from the base, depending on fitness, and the path is straightforward enough that families with older kids won't struggle.

What makes it worth the effort is the vantage point itself. On a clear day you can see across the Midlands landscape, rolling farmland and woodland stretching out in layers. It's the kind of spot where you actually feel like you've gone somewhere, even though you're barely inland from Birmingham.

Historically, it's held importance as a marker point - the name itself suggests it's been a landmark for centuries. There's nothing fancy up there, no visitor centre or cafe, just the hill and the view. That simplicity is rather the point. You won't spend hours here, but the detour from Alcester is genuinely worthwhile if you're doing a park-based holiday at Wootton Park Glamping Pods or Island Meadow and fancy stretching your legs with something that feels purposeful rather than just a gentle amble.

Go on a decent weather day - mist ruins it entirely. And go early to dodge any crowds, though honestly you're unlikely to encounter many people up there at all.
