Dense woodland carpets the slopes above London Apprentice, where Roseweek Plantation offers proper forest walking without the crowds. The conifer stands are interspersed with pockets of broadleaf trees, creating a varied canopy that filters the light beautifully on sunny days.

Walkers will find plenty to explore here, with informal paths threading through the trees. It's not signposted or managed like some Forestry England sites, which means you'll need decent navigation skills and won't find facilities. The terrain can be uneven in places, so sturdy boots are essential.

Families with energetic children who love scrambling about will get the most from a visit - there's space to roam and explore safely away from roads. Dog walkers particularly rate this spot for its quiet atmosphere and the freedom to let dogs off leads.

Allow a couple of hours if you're planning to explore properly. The plantation connects to other woodland areas, so you could easily spend longer if you're keen on a proper ramble.

Staying at nearby Pentewan Sands Holiday Park or Heligan Caravan and Camping Park puts you within easy reach. It's well worth combining with a trip to the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan, which are practically on your doorstep.
