The Roman Garden sits just outside Chichester, a proper slice of history that doesn't require you to squint at interpretation boards to understand. You're walking through what was once a wealthy Roman household's outdoor space - and they've actually recreated it as it would have looked nearly 2,000 years ago, with plants, layouts, and garden features that Romans themselves would have planted and tended.

It's compact, which works in its favour. You won't spend hours here, but an hour is spot on for a proper wander. The detail work is impressive - they've grown period-appropriate plants, arranged them in Roman style, and the whole thing feels genuinely thoughtful rather than just a collection of old bits in a field.

History types and garden enthusiasts will get the most from this. Kids might find it a bit slow unless they're already into archaeology or plants - it's not a playground. Chichester itself is worth a day trip anyway, with its cathedral and city walls giving you other things to see.

For camping, you're brilliantly placed. Creative Camping is just 3.9 miles away, rated excellent, and Stubcroft Farm Campsite sits at 4.8 miles if you want a bit more space. Both are easily close enough for a morning visit before heading elsewhere around Sussex.
