Fishbourne Centre and Playing Fields

The Fishbourne Centre sits on the edge of Chichester, a proper spot for spotting wetland birds and getting some air without fighting crowds. It's a working nature reserve rather than a manicured visitor attraction - you'll find reed beds, open water, and the kind of paths where you might actually see something interesting if you're quiet about it.

Walkers and birdwatchers get the most from it. Bring binoculars, arrive early if you want any real action, and don't expect information boards around every corner. The playing fields are exactly what they sound like - open grassland that's peaceful to walk across, especially in autumn when the light's low and golden. You could easily spend an hour here, longer if you're seriously into ornithology.

Fishbourne works well as a morning or late afternoon stop if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - Concierge Camping is barely a mile away, and Chichester Lakeside just under three miles further. It's the kind of place you'd slot in alongside bigger attractions rather than make a special journey for, but if you're camped locally and want a gentle walk without the Heritage Centre crowds, it does the job.

Access appears to be free, though details aren't widely advertised online. Best visited when weather's decent - it's fairly exposed once you're out on the open ground. Kids will be fine if they're old enough to enjoy bird spotting, but it's not a playground.
