Robinswood Hill Country Park

Robinswood Hill sits just south of Gloucester and rises up rather dramatically from the surrounding countryside, making it impossible to miss if you're passing through the area. It's a proper hill walk destination, not some gentle stroll - you're looking at genuine views across the Forest of Dean and beyond once you reach the top, which frankly makes the climb worthwhile.

The park itself is moorland and woodland mixed together, and the walking routes vary in difficulty. Some people treat it as a quick 20-minute scramble to the summit, others make an afternoon of exploring the various paths that wind through the terrain. The views from the top are genuinely good if the weather cooperates - you can see for miles on a clear day, which isn't always guaranteed in Gloucestershire.

Walkers will get the most from this place. It's not really a destination for families wanting a visitor centre or facilities - there's nothing like that here. But if you're camping or glamping at one of the nearby spots like Painswick Glamping or Court Farm Camping, it's a solid morning activity that won't demand a full day commitment.

Access is free, and you can turn up whenever. The best time is early morning or late afternoon when the light's better and you'll avoid the midday crowds if there are any. Allow an hour minimum for the main hill, longer if you want to explore the woodland sections properly. It's not flashy or over-managed - just a decent chunk of high ground with good views and some proper walking.
