Road Wood

Road Wood is a proper forest walk just outside Builth Wells, the sort of place locals know about but casual visitors often miss. You get a mix of mixed woodland - beech, oak, and conifers - with decent paths that wind through without being too manicured or corporate-feeling.

It's worth an hour or two if you're based at Irfon River Caravan & Camping Park nearby, or if you're spending a few days in the Builth Wells area and fancy a leg-stretch that doesn't require a massive commitment. The paths are manageable, though watch your footing after rain - nothing dramatic, just bog-standard woodland conditions. Families with kids aged six upwards would get something out of it, though it's not a destination in itself.

You won't find formal facilities or clear signage half the time, which is either brilliant or annoying depending on your mood. Bring a map if you're not confident with navigation. There's no admission charge that I'm aware of, and you can do it whenever suits you.

Honestly, Road Wood serves its purpose well enough as a local escape rather than a standalone attraction. Pair it with a walk around Builth Wells itself or time at the caravan park's facilities, and it slots nicely into a Mid Wales circuit. It's good for clearing your head, nothing more.
