Riverview Country Park

The River Findhorn runs through this stretch of Aberdeenshire countryside like a ribbon of proper wildness, and Riverview Country Park sits right on its banks. It's not a manicured attraction with gift shops and rope barriers - it's a genuine nature reserve where you actually feel like you're somewhere remote, even though Forres is only a short drive away.

What you get here is river walks, woodland paths, and genuine peace. The water moves quickly enough to be interesting, and in spring and autumn the birdlife is excellent. There's something calming about standing by the Findhorn and just watching it work its way downstream. Walkers will appreciate the proper trails through the trees, and if you've got younger kids, they'll love the riverside sections where you can chuck stones and look for wildlife. The whole place has that unpretentious feel that Scottish nature reserves do well - no crowds, no fuss.

You'll want at least two hours here to do the walks justice, though you could happily spend longer if you're not in a rush. Check opening times locally as these places can be variable. It works perfectly as a morning or afternoon outing if you're staying at The Loft Glamping or ACE Adventures, both within easy reach. The reserve pairs well with exploring the wider Moray coast - Forres itself is worth a wander for its high street and local shops.
