Grosvenor

The Grosvenor nature reserve sits just outside Forres in Aberdeenshire, and it's one of those places that catches you off guard with how much there is to explore once you actually venture in. This isn't a manicured visitor attraction with a gift shop - it's proper wild ground where you can walk through woodland, spot birds, and get a genuine sense of what the Scottish Highlands landscape actually does when nobody's watching.

The reserve itself is manageable on foot, and you'll find paths threading through native woodland with decent variety in what you're likely to see depending on the season. Spring brings migrating birds. Autumn the colours are tremendous. Even winter has its appeal if you're after some solitude. Most people give it between an hour and ninety minutes, though you can easily stretch it longer if you're the type who stops to actually look at things.

This works particularly well as part of a wider Forres exploration - the town itself has heritage worth an afternoon, and the surrounding countryside is genuinely good for walking.
