River Fowey source

The source of the River Fowey sits high up on Bodmin Moor, about 3 miles south of Launceston, and it's one of those places that feels properly remote even though you're never far from civilisation. You won't find much fanfare when you get there - no visitor centre, no gift shop, just a small spring bubbling up from the moorland where this river begins its 30-mile journey to the sea at Fowey.

It's the walk that makes it worthwhile rather than the destination itself. The moor around here is wild and open, with granite outcrops and gorse-covered slopes. On a clear day the views stretch for miles. On a misty one - which is often - you get that proper atmospheric moorland experience. Most people allow a couple of hours to reach it from nearby Launceston and back, depending on your pace and where exactly you start from.

Historically minded walkers will appreciate the links to Cornwall's mining past scattered across the moor. Families with younger kids might find it a bit bleak and exposed unless they're keen on moorland rambling. The admission is free, naturally, since there's no infrastructure.

If you're based at Ekopod Glamping or Trewithen Farm Glamping nearby, it makes a solid half-day outing. Combine it with exploring Launceston itself, or link it to other moor walks in the area. Worth doing if you're already in the region and the weather's on your side.
