River Dulas

The River Dulas winds through Carmarthenshire as a proper working river rather than a destination lake, but it's worth knowing about if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Towy Valley is practically on your doorstep at just over a mile away. The water cuts through rural South Wales landscape, and you'll find decent walking alongside it, though don't expect manicured riverside paths or visitor facilities.

This is fundamentally a spot for people who like their countryside a bit rough around the edges. Anglers come here, locals use it, and if you've got time to kill between Carmarthen and wherever else you're headed, a walk along the banks fills an hour nicely. The light through the trees can be genuinely lovely in late afternoon, particularly in autumn when the banks get a bit of colour.

Families with young kids might find it a bit underwhelming - there's no playground infrastructure or facilities to speak of. Serious walkers and fishing types will get more from it. The nearest town is Carmarthen itself, which is worth a proper look if you're in the area anyway.

If you're staying at Ravenscroft Retreats or Coedhirion Farm further out, the Dulas works as a gentle walk-off-breakfast kind of place rather than a main event. It costs nothing, takes as long as you want, and fits neatly into the rhythm of a park holiday without demanding much planning.
