Old mill workings and weirs line the water where Sheffield's cutlery industry once thrived, so it's not just a walk in the woods - it's walking through actual working landscape. The main trails are straightforward and manageable for families with kids old enough to handle uneven ground, though pushchairs won't love it. Allow a couple of hours for a decent circuit from the main access point near Stony Flat Bridge. Go midweek if you can; weekends bring out everyone from Sheffield looking for the same escape.

If you're camping at Wyming Brook Farm - the top-rated option at the edge of the valley - you can walk straight from your pitch. Fox Hagg Farm and East Peak are close enough for an easy morning jaunt before heading elsewhere. It's proper basecamp territory for exploring the wider Peak District, though the valley itself rewards a slow potter rather than a rushed visit. Real draw for walkers and anyone who wants their nature uncomplicated.
