Reres Hill

The walk up Reres Hill takes about twenty minutes from Tayport, and honestly, it's one of those modest Scottish summits that punches above its weight. You're not scrambling over rocks or tackling anything dramatic - just a steady climb through farmland with decent views across the Firth of Tay opening up as you gain height. The reward at the top is proper rewarding: the estuary spreads out in front of you, industrial Dundee visible across the water, and on a clear day you can see right across to Perthshire.

Walkers will appreciate it as a straightforward half-day outing, and families with older children won't find it exhausting. Younger kids might lose interest once they've reached the top and realised there's no proper summit marker or shelter - it's just a hill, nothing fussy about it. Allow an hour there and back if you're not rushing.

The appeal here is accessibility rather than drama. It fits perfectly into a caravan holiday based at Tayport Links or Larick Campsite, both sitting less than a couple of miles away. Either site makes a solid base for exploring the Fife coast, and this walk breaks up the week without requiring proper hiking kit or a full day's commitment. It's the sort of thing you'd do on a middling weather day when you want fresh air and movement but nothing that demands commitment. Free, obviously. Go when the Tay isn't shrouded in haar - that wind that rolls in from the water can make the summit feel rather bleak.
