Redhill Common

Redhill Common sprawls across 240 acres of proper Surrey countryside, the sort of place where you can lose a couple of hours without realising. It's woodland and open grassland mixed together, with footpaths threading through both - nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. You get heath, scrub, and enough trees to feel like you've genuinely left Redhill town behind, even though it's basically on the doorstep.

Walkers will find it genuinely useful. The paths are well-maintained and you can string together a decent circular route without much faffing about with maps. Families with kids who can manage uneven ground will be fine here - there's room to run around on the open bits, and the woodland sections keep things interesting. The reserve is free to access and there's no time limit, so you can pop in for an hour or dedicate your morning to it. Spring and early summer are cracking times - the birds are properly active and the whole place feels alive. Winter's quieter but less crowded, which suits some people.
